I’m an avid gamer and long-time modder who broke into the game industry around 2006. I’ve been playing video games for most of my life, starting with a Commodore 64 in my childhood home.
My first experience modding a game was sometime around 1995 with the Doom WAD editor. I remember tinkering with the editor alongside my brother and placing the final boss spawner in the first level of the game. After spitting out numerous enemies, it crashed spectacularly and I was hooked on game development for life.
Fast-forward a few years to high school, when I was playing CS 1.6 non-stop. I built numerous levels in the Valve Hammer editor for game-night and even constructed a CS map of my high school. (We somehow played it at the high school computer lab and didn’t get kicked out) During college I spent much of my free time modding, playing, or breaking video games.
I graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Marketing, but my real passion was game modding which I worked on nightly. Once graduated, I immediately started at a home sales marketing firm as a data and lead analyst. After a few days of manual data entry, I wrote a simple Python script that made my job redundant and repetitive. A few months passed and I realized working in games was my true calling. I soon started at Amaze Entertainment as a Jr Level Designer.
17 years later and I now build games out of a backyard office that I built during the pandemic. It’s been a great journey, and I’m excited for the next adventure!
